<p> It is with heavy hearts that the children of Bud Appelle announce his passing. Joseph Ronald Appelle was born in Port Arthur, April 19, 1924.</p> <p> He passed away at Pioneer Ridge on Feb. 12 at the age of 89.</p> <p> Bud was a Brent Park boy who left home to serve in WW 2 as a Bren Gun Carrier driver. After the war, he married Hazel Hartley and they had four children. Bud was a great fix-it man who kept his house and the houses of others humming.</p> <p> He was a Port Arthur Firefighter and Inspector for many years until he moved to Kenora to be an Inspector with Consumer &amp; Commercial Relations - Fuels Safety Branch. Bud and Hazel loved Kenora, especially camping at Beauty Bay, but they moved back to Thunder Bay when Hazel was ill.</p> <p> His wife Hazel, his parents Joe and Maude Appelle, his sister Gladys Appelle, his brother Tom Appelle, and his brother-in-law Morris Hartley predeceased him.</p> <p> He is survived by his children: Jolene (Guy) Davis, Cindy (Dan) Edmunds, Tom (Cindy) Appelle, and Lori (David) Lunny; his grandchildren: Kristen Loblaw (Chris), Shelby Witiw, Dale Edmunds (Fiona), Amanda Appelle, Jordan Lunny (Tess) and Dorian Lunny; his great grandchildren Max Loblaw and Chase Edmunds; and his sister-in-law Jean Hartley.</p> <p> There will be no formal funeral as per Bud&rsquo;s wishes. His and Hazel&rsquo;s ashes will be interred in Kenora.<br /> <br /> The family will meet privately to celebrate Bud&rsquo;s life on April 19th, which would have been his 90th birthday.&nbsp;</p>
