It is with heavy hearts the family of Mrs. Lydia Jean Belanger announce her passing in St. Joseph’s Hospital Hospice Unit on January 18th, 2015 after a brief illness. She was 83 years old.

Born in Fort William, Lydia moved to Port Arthur early in life and had attended both Cornwall Public School and PACI.  It was there she met the love of her life, Ted, in 1941. They married in 1950 and shared 64 years together.

They had three children which they raised in Red Rock: Barry, Gordie and Judy.  Lydia was a devoted stay-at-home Mom until the kids were in school. She then worked at Nip/Rock High School for 20 years before retiring in 1991 to Thunder Bay.  Lydia was an accomplished bowler, loved to swim, had a passion for reading a good novel and enjoyed preparing large dinners for her family.

She and Ted spent many winters in Florida with her wonderful friends and loved her getaways to Hinckley, Minnesota, with Gordie and Colleen.

Lydia leaves behind to mourn, her husband Ted, her sons Barry (Katharina) and Gordie (Colleen), and her daughter Judy.  Also left to grieve are her grandchildren and great grandchildren; Jeremy Charron (Dana - Chael), Jennifer Dunbar (John - Jordan & Jodi), David Belanger (Jessica - Rebekah), Diana LeBar (Downey - Solomon & Waverly), Melinda Tremblay (Ron - Emma & Isabella), Jonathon Belanger, Simon Belanger (Jess - Kaelynn) and Tyler Belanger. Other survivors include her special niece, Carol Dutchak, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Tina and Michael Chabot, her in-laws Simon and Ann Belanger, her sisters Eleanor Chabot, Anne Dutchak and Helen Jongsma.

She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.

Funeral Services for Lydia will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday January 23rd, 2015 in the Chapel of the HARBOURVIEW FUNERAL CENTRE, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Fr. Jerin Louis of Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church. Family and friends may gather in the chapel up to one hour prior to service time.
