Mrs. Savene Ellen Romanick (Wakewich) aged 87, a resident of Thunder Bay passed away in Pinewood Court on Thursday January 22, 2015.  Savene was born on February 16, 1927 in Fort William Thunder Bay to Michael and Julia Wakewich their second and last daughter.

Savene attended Fort William Vocational Institute. Her careers consisted of working at Eaton’s Department Store packaging goods; Ministry of Natural Resources planting trees; and at Canada Car delivering parts on a bicycle to the mechanics.  Her family lived on a farm in Oliver Paipoonge Township.

Savene supported the farm by tending to the livestock and land. She spoiled her favorite cow, Betsy by sneaking her carrots under the fence and loved feeding the chickens. One of her duties was to make and sell cottage cheese. During her deliveries to town she met her devoted and loving husband Walter Romanick. They married in May of 1955 and were blessed with 4 children.

During her years as a house wife she was an avid gardener; a master chef; and the pioneer of home renovation. She traveled to Ukraine with her parents to visit their homeland. Savene cared deeply for her family and went above and beyond to make things happen for everyone. She was unique, innovative and intelligent. Playing the mandolin and singing off key helped the family through challenging times.

Savene is survived by her husband, Walter; her sons Gary (Linda); David; Patrick and her daughter, Sheila (Michael); her grandchildren John; Jacqueline; Kimberly and Megan; and her great grandson, Lucas. She is pre-deceased by her parents Michael and Julia Wakewich; and sister Olga Urbanski.  Funeral services for Savene will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 when family and friends will gather for Liturgy in Church of the Holy Cross at 11:00am celebrated by Rev. Andrija Petresin.  Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.  Panachyda will be offered on Tuesday evening, at 7:00pm in Church of the Holy Cross.  If friends desire, memorials to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Savene Romanick will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 12, 2016.
