Mr. Albin “Al” Anderson, age 85 years, passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 24, 2015.
Al was born September 8, 1929 in Fort William. He spent his early childhood in Paska before moving to Armstrong. He met Lorraine Loboski in 1950 in Fort William. They married in 1953 and together they started their family. In 1972 they moved to Saskatoon. Al was very proud of his 36 years with the CNR as a locomotive engineer with the last 13 years as a Master Mechanic supervising the engineers and student engineers in Saskatchewan. He was also so thrilled that there are 5 generations of the family with the CNR, 3 of them locomotive engineers and 2 in other areas.
Al was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing and hunting especially the ducks and geese in Saskatchewan. He also built a wonderful cottage at Blackstrap Lake South of Saskatoon and spent summers with family and friends in charge of the barbecue. The fifth wheel took him and Lorraine to the sunny south in winter and from East to West in Canada in summer. He was a busy campaigner during elections and a volunteer for diverse charities.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lorraine; children Dennis (Lessa), Darlene and Daryl (Linda); 3 grandchildren; nieces and nephews Lynne (Paul) Facca, Lorraine (Mike) Schlereth, Debbie (Bill) Komar, Joe (Cheryl) Ripku and Carl (Nancy) Anderson. Numerous other relatives also survive.
He was predeceased by his daughters Maureen and Diane; parents; sister Anna Cameron and sister in-law Nettie Ripku.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 in the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Holy Cross with the Funeral Liturgy at 11:00am celebrated by Fr. Andrija Petersin. Visitation will be held in the Church one hour prior to service time. Interment will take place in St. Andrew's Cemetery at a later date. Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma in care of arrangements.
