Mr. Salvatore Sanzo passed away peacefully with his family by his side in the T.B.R.H.S.C. on Monday, May 25, 2015.

He was born and raised in Chiaravalle Centrale, Catanzaro, Italy, the son of Nicola and Giulia Sanzo, and later immigrated to Canada in 1963.

He met the love of his life, Eva Sacchetti, in 1966 and the two were married in 1968. Together they raised a family of four children and had years of love, joy and cherished memories.  Salvatore’s work ethic was one of dedication, respect, and appreciation to detail with everything that he performed.

He worked in construction for Deep Diving Salvage and Ship Repairs, P and G Construction, and for many years with Bruno’s Contracting from where he retired.  He was a member of the Italian Society of Port Arthur and St. Anthony’s R.C. Church.

He was an avid gardener often inviting people to see and share in his garden.

He also enjoyed music and dancing proudly showing people his record player and 8 track in his truck.  Countless times were also spent enjoying a glass of homemade wine and playing cards with family and friends.  Salvatore was also a skilled 5 pin bowler for over 33 years winning many individual and team awards.

He truly cherished the many friendships he made along the way over the years.

By far his greatest love was for his family, especially his grandchildren. Family dinners or any occasion where he could visit and spend time with those he loved, were the times that he always looked forward to.

He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife of 47 years Eva, children: Paolo (Arlene), Linda, Domenic (Tammy) and Nick (Mandi); grandchildren Sarah, Emily, Josie, Joshua and Kaitlyn; his brother Giuseppe (Maria) Sanzo; his sisters: Maria (Giuseppe) Rizzo, Lucia (Annunziato) Caputo and Vincenza Degiorgio; brothers-in-law Franco Daniele, Antonio Badolato, and Ermando (Eva) Sacchetti;  sisters-in-law Giuseppina Sanzo and Maria Sacchetti in Italy and Iolanda (Raffaele) D’Angelo and Maria (E) and Maria (A) Sacchetti in Thunder Bay, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Antonio, sisters Franca Daniele and Nella Badolato, brothers-in-law Eugenio Sacchetti and Attilio Sacchetti and sister- and brother-in-law Solina (Attilio) Icaro. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015 leaving the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street at 9:30 a.m. to St. Anthony’s R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini.

The entombment will take place in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum, St. Andrew’s Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday (this evening) from 5-7 p.m. with Vigil Service at 7 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, an expression of sympathy memorial to the T.B.R.H.S. Foundation-Northern Cancer Fund or the Lung Association of Ontario will be greatly appreciated.

On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
