The family are deeply saddened to announce the death of their husband, father and grandfather, Alastair MacKay Sr. (age 89), who passed away peacefully, June 28, 2015. Alastair began his long and distinguished career as a certified accountant and retired from the Federal Business Development Bank, but continued working as a director and member of the Nishnawbe Aski Development Fund (1987 – 2006).

He was past treasurer of the Christmas Cheer Fund, a Shriner’s clown and member of the Masonic Order. As an avid member of the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and long-time member of the Con College fitness centre, Al developed many friendships.

Daily fitness was a very important part of his life. Predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Catherine MacKay, sisters Joan and Henrietta, he is survived by his loving wife Barbara, sons Alastair Jr. and Ian and daughter-in-law Sharon. Granddaughter Tiana and sister Catherine Lockie.

A service to celebrate Alastair MacKay’s life will be held on Thursday, July 2 at 2p.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (corner of Donald and Brodie). In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer society of Thunder Bay or St. Andrew’s Building Fund, gratefully accepted.

Alastair MacKay will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 12, 2016.
