Mr. Joseph Wojciechowski age 94 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 28th, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Care Group, Hospice Unit, Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Joe was born January 23, 1921 in what was then Fort William, Ontario to Polly and Frank Wojciechowski. Joe was predeceased by two brothers Peter and John and by two sisters Annie Wiecek and Helen Bell. Joe met Ethel Miller in 1940 and they recently celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on October 7, 2014.

Their marriage has been a wonderful adventure. Joe was called up and joined active service from 1942 – 1946, when he served his country on both coasts. Joe’s career with the CPR spanned 43 years retiring as a Senior Perishable Food Inspector. Throughout his career he only missed half a day’s work due to a foot injury.

You would never catch Joe driving to work as he loved to walk. Joe enjoyed life as reflected by his permanent smile that brightened everyone’s day. Family was everything to Joe, so family gatherings were numerous, large, loud and fun. Joe was an avid outdoorsman who lived to fish with his sons and best friend Corky. His many wild and entertaining fishing stories will live on forever. In his younger years he enjoyed and excelled at hockey.

Joe was an active parishioner at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and a proud member of the Royal Canadian Slovak Legion Branch 129. Joe is survived by his loving wife Ethel, children David (Julie), Ken (Linda) Nancy (Don Godfrey), Michael (Denise), and Paul (fiancée Elisabeth); grandchildren Barry, Neil, Amanda, Christopher, Robert, Jennifer, Gregory, Andrew and Anne; great-grandchildren, Brady, Casey, Adam, Blair, John, Ryan, Lucas and Kaylee. Joe is also survived by his brother Steve who resides in Sault St. Marie. Joe was also blessed with many wonderful nephews, nieces and close friends who have been an active part of his life.

He was pre-deceased by grand-daughter Nancy in 2002 and great grand-daughter Erin in 1996.

A special thank you to CCAC for the outstanding care given by your dedicated staff while Joe was still living at home. Each and everyone of you brought a smile to his face. Also thank you to the caring nurses, social workers and doctors from the Hospice Floor at St. Joseph’s Care Group.

We could not have asked for better care and support. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 3, 2015, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:00am, at St.Patrick's Cathedral celebrated by Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla V.G. A private family interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00pm in the Blake Funeral Chapel with prayers to be offered at7:00pm. If friends desire, memorials to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation, or St. Joseph’s Care Group, Hospice Unit, would be appreciated.
