Lee Kostyshyn, age 94 years, passed away peacefully with the sun shining on her face, on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the TBRHSC.

Lee was born on October 25, 1920 in Goodeve, Saskatchewan, the second oldest of five daughters born to George and Annie Malainy. She moved to Hamilton, ON in the 1940’s and worked at various jobs.  In 1944, she married Nick Kostyshyn and together they relocated to Red Rock, ON where they managed the Vicmore Hotel. They moved to Fort William in 1956, and later purchased their first and only home where Lee lived until the time of her passing.

Lee was a stay at home mom who loved to garden and took pride in her home.  In retirement she and Nick traveled frequently throughout Canada and the US in their 1974 Ford LTD. She enjoyed many outings with her dear Aunts Katherine and Eva, and always looked forward to her visits with Maria, and her chats with Tally and Stevie. Lee cherished her special times with her grandchildren and more recently her great grandsons.

She was predeceased by her husband, Nick; her sisters, Marie, Chris, Nell, and Margaret; her Aunts Katherine and Eva; her brothers-in-law, William, Steve, Max, and Chuck (Walter); her sisters-in-law, Margaret and Jessie; niece, Janet, and nephew, Charles.

She is survived by her son, George; grandchildren, Christopher (Terrie), Carley (Gabriel), and Kimberly (Keith); and great-grandsons, River and Kobe. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Stevie and Dorothy; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

As per Lee’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of Lee’s life will take place at a later date. If anyone so desires, donations may be made in Lee’s memory to the Underground Gym.

The family wishes to thank the staff on 1A and Emergency at Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre, especially Jules and Martin.  We would also like to thank the staff from Bayshore, in particular Elizabeth, for their care and support over the last few weeks.

Michalina Kostyshyn will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 12, 2016.
