Mr. John Hunda, age 93 years of Pioneer Ridge, formerly of South High Street, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, November 22, 2015.
John was born in Bytkiw, Ivano Frankivsk, Ukraine on June 25, 1922 and came to Canada in 1950. He married Betty Vasold on February 17, 1955 in the Church of the Transfiguration. He worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway until retirement in 1987. John enjoyed gardening, wood working and building projects. Family, friends and his church were most important to John. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his 2 sons, Peter (Jennie) and John Jr. (Lorna); three grandchildren, Chris (Toronto) and Lyndsay and Gina (Thunder Bay) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in Canada, Ukraine and Germany.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Betty (2005) and his parents, Dmytro and Mary Hunda.
Funeral Services for the late Mr. John Hunda will be held on Thursday, November 26, 2015 leaving the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma at 9:20AM to the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration for the Funeral Liturgy at 10:00AM, celebrated by Father Vladimir Chvets. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening after 5:00 PM in the Everest Funeral Chapel with Panachyda offered at 7:00PM.
