It is with broken hearts, the family of Brian William Derkatch announce his sudden passing on Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 in the comfort of his home.

Brian was born August 26th, 1960 to proud parents Mike and Mary Derkatch of Thunder Bay, where he spent his whole life. Brian’s life WAS his family. Whether it be traditional holidays, milestone celebrations, vacations, local events, going for coffee, pool parties, picnics, kids activities, lending a helping hand wherever needed, etc….he enjoyed it all, as long as he was with his family.

Brian knew how to have fun. He had a unique sense of humour, which he inherited from his father.

He loved anything with engines, like riding motorbikes or snowmobiles and would take them apart just to see how they worked. Brian loved cars and was a proud owner of a 71’ burnt orange Barracuda at the age of 18. He bought, fixed and sold cars like no other. Brian enjoyed rock n roll music and loved to sing and dance, which was infectious. His social personality made a lasting impression on anyone he met.

Brian was employed at numerous companies such as Ministry of Transportation, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, Great Lakes Paper, CN Rail, Bazuik Rail, Valhalla Inn and Lakehead School Board as a school crossing guard. Brian found his niche as a stay at home dad, as nothing made him more proud than his beautiful, smart and successful daughter Tara.

Everyone who knew Brian could tell you how proud he was of her and her accomplishments.

Brian will be forever loved and remembered by his Mother Mary Derkatch; loving wife Jan Derkatch; daughter Tara Van Dyk (Jeff) and grandchildren Amber & Hudson Van Dyk; sister Shirley Fuchek (Rick) and sister Debbie White (Doug); niece Tanya Carson (Shane), niece Tammy Taylor (Ryan), nephew Ryan White (Michelle) and their families, along with numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins who he loved very much.

Brian was predeceased by his Father Mike Derkatch; Grandparents William & Anastasia (Nellie) Kyryluk and Thomas & Josephine Derkatch; cousin Susan Drindak and numerous Aunts and Uncles.

Funeral services for the late Mr. Brian Derkatch will be held on Friday, February 12th, 2016 at 1:30pm in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James, officiated by Pastor Matthew Diegel. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00pm.

Should friends so desire, donations can be made in Brian’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

“WE LOVE YOU AND YOU WILL BE FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS”
