Nicholas Burak, a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully on Sunday May 1, 2016, with loving family at his side. 

He was born in Ft. William on October 10, 1922 to Alex and Anna Burak. 

?At 23 years of age, he volunteered for active service for the Second World War. 

He was a member of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles serving active duty in Canada, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and the North Pacific. Returning from active duty, Dad spent most of his career working at Paterson then Richardson grain elevators. 

Before retiring, he was a custodian for the Thunder Bay Catholic District Separate School Board. On June 1, 1949 he married the love of his life Annie Fantuz. 

During their 63 years of married life they raised 3 children instilling a sense of morals and values in each.

He was a faithful member of St. Dominic Church and a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion Slovak Branch #129 for 71 years. Family was a crucial part of dad’s life. 

He was always available when one of us needed help. Dad always made time to help with a project or to babysit his grandchildren.  He had many hobbies: skating, bowling, dancing and watching his grandchildren in their various activities.

Nick is survived by his 3 children: Judy (Wayne) Milloy, Don (Dorry) Burak and Ron (Sherry Lynn) Burak and 5 grandchildren: Kelli and Jonathan (Victoria) Milloy, Cassandra (Maciej) Kajda and Charles (Tobie-Lynn) and Christopher Burak, his sister in law Katarina Burak and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Annie, his parents Alex and Anna, his brothers Bill, Steve, Peter and Mike and his sisters Jenny and Tina.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday May 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Church celebrated by Rev. Maurizio Maifredi cs.  Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.  A Legion Tribute Service will precede the mass. As an expression of sympathy, should friends desire, donations in Nick’s name can be made to TBRHSC, Northern Cancer Research Foundation, the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.

Nicholas Burak will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
