With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Francesca Bloom, age 77 years, on April 30th, 2016, with her loving family by her side.
Francesca was born on February 10, 1939 in Rende, Cosenza, Italy. With her seven siblings, she was raised on the farm with a modest upbringing but richly surrounded by family and friends.
In her mid-20s, she joined several of her siblings and moved to Canada in search of new opportunities. She met her husband, Nick Bloom, got married in 1967 and started a family.
Her children were always her first priority but she found time to work her way up to Food Services Supervisor at Lakehead University yet still look after the well-being of her family. When grandchildren arrived, they were spoiled with love and treats from Nanna’s pantry.
Francesca was known for her nurturing of others and her generosity of spirit. She derived her greatest pleasures from being a doting grandmother, mother and aunt; from tending to her vegetable garden and flowers; from cooking and entertaining others at her house and filling their plates with pasta and homemade tomato sauce that simmered on the stove for hours.
Francesca is survived by her daughter Diane; son Rob (Anna Lisa) and their children Aiddan and Ethan; brothers Mario (Rosa), Antonio (Anna-Maria), Alfredo (Lina), Nino; sisters Ida, Vittoria, Sarina (Franco); brother-in-law Edward (Beverly); numerous nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by her parents Emilio and Filomena; her husband Nick; sister-in-law Rita; brothers-in-law Vittorio and Arnie.
Funeral services for Francesca will be held on Friday, May 6th at 2:00pm at Corpus Christi Church on Red River Rd. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 5th from 6-8pm at Jenkens Funeral Home on South Syndicate Avenue where the Vigil Service will begin at 7pm. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or to a charity of your choice.
