It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Steve Jeans at his camp at Northern Light Lake on May 17, 2016 ~ a place he loved to be.

Steve was born on October 21, 1948 in Catalina, Newfoundland. He grew up next to the ocean and like many Newfoundlanders found work in the fisheries. He cleaned fish at the fish plant and to this day he could clean a fish in no time. When he was 18 he spread his wings and headed for the “mainland” and worked various jobs in Hamilton, Toronto and Sudbury. He eventually made his way to Thunder Bay and it reminded him of home and he decided to stay.

Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman and wouldn't miss an opening day if he could help it. He was a welder/fitter by trade and your go-to guy for anything that needed fixing. If Steve didn't have it, he would figure out a way to make it. He was a talented musician and could play almost any instrument he could get his hands on. So many campfires were accompanied by guitars, the squeeze box and singing.

Steve and Carol got together in 1984 and on April 26, 1991 decided to tie the knot. They just celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary.

Steve is survived by his wife Carol, son David and grandson Dayle; his daughter Crystal, her fiance Travis Komar and grandson Carter – who was the apple of Grampa's eye. He is also survived by his brother Walt and sisters Phyllis (John) Chambers, Holly (Bill) Axworthy and Connie (Terrance) Hicks; brother-in-law George (Carolyn) Elliott, sisters-in-law Susan (Tom) Butler, Karen (Mike) Faulkner and mother-in-law Marjorie Elliott. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was predeceased by his parents Allan and Madeline Jeans, his sister Peggy Stagg in November 2015 and father-in-law Bill Elliott.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Oliver Road Recreation Centre. In memory of Steve, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice.

Carol, David and Crystal would like to thank the OPP for their help and professionalism and all those at Northern Light Lake Resort who looked after everything for us. We are forever grateful.
