Kathleen Kartinen
October 7, 1950 – August 12, 2016
Remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and wife, Kathy has ended her battle of liver cancer in the comfort of her home as per her wishes with her family by her side.
Kathy was born in Niagara Falls, spent most her years in Thunder Bay and recently retired in Ignace, ON. She was well known for her hard work and love of spending time in the kitchen, her Christmas baking had become a yearly tradition.
From her coffee dates, fishing and camping with her husband, to her love of Johnny Reid, Kathy was an all-around woman who enjoyed the many aspects that life had to offer.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband Alan Kartinen, her sons; Joey (Judy) Hamre, Rob (Andrea) Hamre and Alan Junior. Her grandchildren; Katelyn (David), Brandon, Rylie (Zachary), and Tyler. Her sisters; Leonie (Omer) Belisle, Eileen (Bruce) Crozier. Her brothers; Kevin (Lori) Foster, and Colin Foster. Her Aunt, Kathleen Smith as well as her numerous nieces and nephews of which relationships she valued dearly. Her sister-in-laws; Marlene (Cliff) Mary, Ilona (Angus), and Ann (Leonard). Brother-in-laws; Willie (Natalie), and Carl. Kathy is predeceased by her parents George and Rosemary Foster, Sister; Martha, brother in law; Lloyd Simmons and mother and father in laws; Miriam and Walter Kartinen.
Kathy’s family would like to send out much love and appreciation for all the hard work and help from the nurses of Paramed; Jodi and Maggie as well as all the support and condolences received from the community.
Cremation has taken place. No service will be held as per her wishes. Interment of ashes will be at Stanley Hill Cemetery at a later date. If friends so desire donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Kathleen Kartinen will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
