William “Bill” Mayer became a guardian angel on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 after a 3 and a half year battle with lung cancer.

He is survived by his wife Janis of 44 years, children Keith (Tricia) and Cora (Greg), along with grandchildren Dylon, McKenzy, Patricia-Ann and Noah.

He also leaves behind his sisters Carol (Richard), Ruth (Gary) and Joy (Rick).

Bill was predeceased by his Dad (Mike), Mom (Joyce) and a sister at birth.  Growing up, “Billy” attended Harstone, Francis Street and Selkirk schools, where some knew him as “Crebs”, before joining the construction world, where he worked for over 40 years; most notably with Wing Construction, and Gateway before retiring when diagnosed.

Never a day would pass when you couldn’t get a joke from Bill, or have him say “and what did you learn today?” when you messed something up, because every mess up was a chance to learn from your mistake.

Almost every weekend was spent at the family camp on Arrow Lake, fishing as much as possible.  He was able to fish on his last time out this summer.

As per Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and burial at Stanley Hill Cemetery will take place in a private family ceremony.

All friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life to be held Sunday August 28, 2016 at the Airlane Hotel at 1-4 pm, with words shared at 1:30pm.

We would also like to give a sincere Thank You to every Doctor, Nurse, Family member or Friend that came in contact with and helped Bill during his fight. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or St Joseph’s Care Group.

William Mayer will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
