Larry Hodges was a man of action, always willing to help his friends and family in their time of need.

He loved to laugh and entertain everyone with his silly jokes, and outlandish stories. Larry had many passions: fishing/hunting, Stephen King novels, intricate wood working projects and watching hockey (Canadiens).

He also enjoyed attending the games of his favorite local teams; Border Cats baseball and Thunderwolves hockey. Family was everything to Larry; from getting into mischief in his youth with his 5 brothers, camping & fishing adventures with his 3 children, hosting Christmas Eve Dinners, to attending his grandchildrens’ various sports activities.

He was a sentimental man evident in his love letters he wrote to June, and his collections of treasured mementos from special life events.

Larry started working as a young man for his father’s company Hodges Towing & Salvage (later renamed LNR Enterprises). He then enlisted into the Canadian Air Force for a number of years before starting a family.

Shortly after his first child was born, he went to Centennial College to obtain his Heavy Equipment Mechanic’s License and worked for the next 20 years at the Abitibi Mill.

Once the mill closed their doors, he once again went into business with his brother Reg, opening Dakel Enterprises. Upon his retirement he still kept active, delivering papers to local businesses for the Chronicle Journal for several years.

He overcame many challenges in his life from his modest birth into a large family as #5 of 6 children on June 21, 1944 in Port Arthur, change of careers, loss of friends and family members to suffering from health issues in his later years.

His fighting spirit kept him motivated. He recently succumbed to health complications at the young age of 72, this August 24, 2016. He is predeceased by his parents Florence and Gordon, his brothers Don, Art and his sister Joan. Left to mourn his passing are June (mother of his children), children Shawn (Brenda), Lisa (Rod), Stephanie (Gaetan), his grandchildren Matthew, Keilynn,, Alysha, RJ, Joshua, ‘granddog’ Bella and great grandchild Lily, his brothers Reg (Pat, nephews Barry, Chris, niece Debbie & families) and Wayne (Alice, nieces Linda, Susan & families), brother in law George (nephews Dwayne, Clint, niece Leigh Ann and families), nephew Terry (Jane and family).

Over his lifetime, Larry made numerous friends who will miss his quirky sense of humour, his strong determination and generosity. A Celebration of Life service will take place at Jenkens Funeral Home, Saturday September 3, 1-3 pm.
