Mr. Metro "Mike" Bachinski, age 85 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in Hogarth Riverview Manor on Saturday, February 20, 2010.

Mike was born in Fort William. In his early years he lived in the East End of Thunder Bay, later moving to the Current River area. At a young age he started working at the Port Arthur Ship Yards. Later, Mike was employed with the Abitibi Provincial Paper Mill. He remained at Abitibi for forty-two years until his retirement. Mike enjoyed fifty-seven years of marriage with his wife Helen (Polich).

Coach Mike was a fixture behind the bench of Dorian’s and the Thunder Bay Old Timers hockey clubs. He coached both teams to many victories. Mike enjoyed walking and being with his dog. Every morning he could be found at McDonald’s with the coffee gang. Mike was an honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1130. He attended Our Lady of Loretto Roman Catholic Church for fifty seven years. Mike was one of the mister fix-it crew at the church.

Mike will be lovingly remembered by his wife Helen; daughter Janice (Bill); grandsons: Courtney and Nick; sister Joyce and her husband John Kohut. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Kathleen Bachinski (nee Gulak); sister and brother-in-law Olga and Andrew Zadorozny; sister Julie and brother-in-law John Chuchmuch; brother Sam and sister-in-law Ann Bachinski.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 27th, 2010 at Our Lady of Loretto Roman Catholic Church, 290 Grenville Avenue, celebrated by Rev. Msgr. P. M. Stilla, V.G. Inurnment will take place in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum, St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Visitation for family and friends will be held in the Church one hour prior to the Mass. Donations, in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, may be made in Mike’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay, or to Our Lady of Loretto Church Elevator Fund.
