Mr. Walter “Wally” Wywrot passed away peacefully on Thursday Feb. 18th 2010 at Versa Care Centre (formerly of Minnesota St.).  He will be remembered for his love of life, his kindness to others and his involvement in the community. Throughout his life he worked at various jobs, including the Empire Mine (Beardmore), on the Great Lake freighters, as a labourer (in Baltimore), where he also played semi-pro hockey, in the Tin Shop at Northern Engineering Fort William and his last 25 working years at Great Lakes Paper, where he spent most of his time in the Tin Shop and made many lifelong friends.  In his later working years he enjoyed fishing and moose hunting in the Black Sturgeon Area, especially with his brother Frank. He was also a member of the musicians union and he played guitar with many other fine musicians at weddings and other social functions.  During his retirement years, he was a member of the Elks, was active in Senior Curling, with Take it Easy League at the FWCC, and the Thunder Bay Barbershop Chorus, where he and his best friend Bill Poshtar enjoyed singing.  He also enjoyed traveling with friends or the gang from the Elks and loved going golfing.  In his later years spent at home, he enjoyed sitting on his sunny deck watching everything passing him by and talking to his neighbours.  He also enjoyed attending family gatherings at his extended families’ homes.  He is survived by his 3 sons Randy (Nancy), Gordon (Jean) and Jim as well as his grandsons Dustin, Peter and Allen. Also surviving are his sister Elizabeth “Caza” Konderka and his brothers Frank (Theresa) and Peter, sisters-in-law Helen Paradis, Theresa Bevilacqua and Anita Hvezda, and several nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his wife Anne in 1998, his parents Frank and Anne, brother Joe and sister-in-law Stella, brother Bernie, brother Mike, sister Julie and brother-in-law Cal McEachern, brother-in-law Joe Konderka, brother-in-law Clem Paradis and brother-in-law Tony Bevilacqua.  Also predeceased by brother’s-in-law Peter Hvezda, John Hvezda, Joe “Skipper” Hvezda and Frank Hvezda.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 when family and friends will gather for the Funeral Mass in St. Peter's Church at 1:30 p.m. celebrated by Rev. Wayne Bolton s.j.  Interment will follow in Mountain ViewCemetery.  Vigil Prayers will be offered on Tuesday evening at 8:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel.  If friends desire, memorials to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

 

A tree will be planted in memory of Walter Wywrot in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 12, 2011.
