Mr. Douglas "Doug" Malcolm Thomson, age 59 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, ICU with family by his side on Wednesday, March 10th, 2010.

Doug grew up in Current River and attended Current River Elementary School and Gron Morgan High School. As a child, Doug had a fearless love and curiosity of all animals and often brought them home. Doug lived in Nolalu and enjoyed farming for a number of years. In his early 20’s, he worked as a taxi driver, delivered furniture for Henderson Cartage, and later returned to driving taxi. He spent many years working for Great Lakes as a truck driver and cooking in the bush camps.

Doug went on to achieve his diploma in the Culinary Arts Program at Confederation College and was employed by Giorg Ristorante. He enjoyed baking and cooking for others, spent many years volunteering with children and teens, and especially loved spending time with his children who were in the 2511 LSSR Cadet Corps. Doug had a lifelong love of fishing and more recently, enjoyed summer camping and fishing excursions with family and friends. He had an amazing memory and never forgot a name or a face, and was always able to strike up a friendly conversation.

Doug will be lovingly remembered by his wife Stella; daughter Angie (Shawn) Edwards; daughter-in-law Shannon Kuchiak; grandchildren: Deven and Kaelan Edwards, Alexa, Kori, Sara, Houston and Hunter Thomson; siblings: Charlie, George (Renee), John (Barb), Barb (Frank) Sheare, Bill (Marguerite) and Flora (John) Kennedy. Numerous nieces; nephews and other relatives also survive. Doug was predeceased by his son Jamey; mother Beatrice; father Jimmy, brother Don; sister-in-law Liz Thomson; nephew Michael Thomson; and niece Addyson Foster.

Following cremation, Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16th, 2010 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, presided by Rev. Msgr. P. M. Stilla, V.G. of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time. If friends and family so desire, donations may be made in Doug’s memory to the charity of their choice.
