James Vibert

Posted

Adventurer and entrepreneur James Gordon Vibert passed away on his last day on the job Wednesday, March 10, 2010.

Jim’s loss will be felt not only by his family and friends but by business colleagues, staff and the entire Upsala community.

Jim, the second son of Milton and Helen (Paschuk) Vibert was born in Fort William on June 21, 1948. He was raised and educated along with the rest of the Vibert crew by the good folk of Rosslyn Village and cut his teeth under the watchful eye of his father at the Brickyard.

Stubborn, impatient and irrepressible, Jim was out on his own and in business by the time he was 16. He moved from Rosslyn to Upsala and in 1970 married lifelong partner Lynn and together raised three children.

Jim was the founder and longtime operator of the Inwood Forest Products Whitepine Sawmill and the Upsala Forest Products Chipping and Roundwood operation. He was always a big supporter of the Upsala Community and could be counted on for financial or personal support for any local event by coaching kid's hockey teams, sponsoring a company baseball team and most recently by having Master Seung come to Upsala to teach Tae Kwon Do.

No one had more ideas or chased more dreams than Jim. No hill was too steep or swamp too deep, Jim was always ready to go. Along the way Jim got into and out of more than his fair share of jackpots but they never slowed him down. Put a smile on Jim’s face and chase one of your dreams today.

Jim is survived by his wife Lynn; son Keith (Shannon); daughters: Kathlene (Tyler) Allen and Leah-Ann; grandsons: Delaney and Keir; brother Gary (Sandy). Many nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. He was predeceased by his parents and brother David Milton Vibert.

Funeral Services for the late Mr. James Vibert will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James with Archdeacon M.S. Conliffe officiating. Interment will follow at Stanley Hill Cemetery. A Gathering will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Cliffside Resort, Upsala with prayers led by the Rev. Scott Gale. If friends so desire, memorial donations made to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or to the Master Seung Tae-Kwon-Do Academy - Upsala Program, would be greatly appreciated.
