Mrs. Eleanor Pilon, age 86 years, a longtime resident of Rockwood Avenue, passed away peacefully with family at her side in the T.B.R.H.S.C. on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Eleanor was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 18, 1924 to Arthur and Isabel White. As a young child living on the CN Rail Line with her parents she attended an elementary school car. She came to Thunder Bay at age 16 to attend the then Port Arthur Technical Institute. During the war she worked in the Engineering Office of Canada Car. While in high school, she met Roch Pilon and the two were married on October 20, 1945. She worked as an E.S.L. tutor and later in the Drapery and Linens Departments at Eaton’s, extending her knowledge with Interior Decorating Courses. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, various hand crafts and especially wedding cake decorating. Eleanor was very involved with St. Michael & All Angels Anglican Church where she served on the Altar Guild and the Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Red River Reelers Square Dancing Club and for the past 18 years a member of the Shake, Chatter and Roll Walking Club at Intercity Mall where she made many good friends. Eleanor’s family came first and she dearly loved spending time with them, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her husband of almost 65 years Roch, son Cleon (Patricia) Pilon of Meridian, Idaho, daughters Nadeen (Richard) Felstead of Brandon, Manitoba and Beverly (John) Parrott of Chilliwack, B.C., 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sisters May Garbutt of Thunder Bay and Evelyn Bowser of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by daughter Gayle in infancy, her parents and brothers Roy and Fred White. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 3, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Ven. Mark S. Conliffe presiding. Visitation for friends will be held for 1 hour prior to service time. Interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the E.R. staff, Dr. Macgillivray, the I.C.U. staff in particular Dr. Anderson, nurses Sherrie, Jessica and Clint for their compassion and excellent care of our Mother.
