Mr. Alonie “Al” Chiasson, age 86 years, resident of Matthews Street passed away peacefully with family by his side at Roseview Manor on Sunday, May 23, 2010.

Alonie was born in Caraquet, New Brunswick on January 22, 1924 to Xavier and Louise Chiasson. He was a descendent of one of the founding families of Caraquet, dating back to the 1700's and was very proud of his Acadian heritage. He and his wife met while working in a bush camp in the 1950's. Alonie loved many things; the ocean, whether it be lobster fishing with his father or skating on it in the winter, Christmas time, always making it so special and working with cars. He always had some sort of project he was working on at home and was an avid hockey fan. Alonie was a gentle and kind man who was known for his love of children and his great sense of humour and was well known for his hospitality, always inviting people into his home. Alonie was a long time member of Local 759 Iron Workers Union.

Alonie is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Cecile; 4 children Denise (John) Storm, Claire (Gary) Hardy, Robert (Barbara) and Roger (Susan); 8 grandchildren Justin (Kristin), Chantal (Jim), Alana (Todd), Kyle, Jason, Kaitlyn, Makyla, and Alyssa and 3 great-grandchildren Summer, Adam and Kiera. Numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

Predeceased by his parents, 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

Funeral services for the late Mr. Alonie Chiasson will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, May 28, 2010 in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma with Fr. Richard Kowalchuk officiating. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time. If friends so desire, donations made in memory of Alonie to the Parkinson's Society of Canada or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated by the family.
