To the editor:

I did a search and have not found anything reporting on a dangerous plant that is now présent in fields and roadsides near Thunder Bay. Specifically, these plants are growing abundantly on the roadsides leading to Chippewa Park.

It is called giant hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum) and its sap can cause blisters and third-degree like burns on the skin of humans and pets that can last for months or even years, and it can also cause blindness.
