LETTER: Road conditions worsen in Current River

To the editor: To my fellow residents in Current River Ward, I’m committed to making this a better ward. I look forward to meeting with as many of you living in this ward.

To the editor:

To my fellow residents in Current River Ward, I’m committed to making this a better ward.  I look forward to meeting with as many of you living in this ward.  To date, I have knocked on more than 1,000 doors listening to all of your ideas and concerns.

The most common concern I’ve been hearing is the condition of our roads.  I’ve addressed this issue by inquiring with our city engineers regarding the condition of the newly resurfaced portion of Cumberland Street.  Also, I inquired about when Water Street was going to be repaired.

I was informed Cumberland Street has an underlying concrete road base.  The city tried to be more cost effective by requesting the contractor mill 80mm of asphalt and then place a reinforcing grid material between the existing and new asphalt prior to paving.

Unfortunately, we now have over 30 cracks going across the newly paved road.  Needless to say, for the remaining rehabilitation of Cumberland Street, the city plans to excavate any underlying concrete road base.

From what I have read in another publication, Water Street and the remaining section of Cumberland Street is listed for upgrades in 2015 and 2016.

I feel as a ward councillor, it’s important that citizens are properly informed on all matters and concerns brought forth regarding their city and ward.  This is an example of my commitment to you.  I will continue to do my best to address any concerns you bring forward during my campaign.  We don’t have to wait until Oct. 27.

Andy Wolff,
Candidate, Current River Ward
