THUNDER BAY – The name of one of the suspects in the city’s 10th murder of the year has been revealed.

Police identified 22-year-old Jeffrey Luke Achneepineskum as one of the two people facing second degree murder charges in the killing of 51-year-old Rene Sortolovo earlier this week.

Sortolovo was found dead Oct. 19 inside his North Marks Street home on Sunday night. Investigators believe robbery was a motive.

A 17-year-old female was arrested along with Achneepineskum early Wednesday evening. Police had previously said they believe the co-accused has a relationship with Achneepineskum.

The name of the 17-year-old female will not be disclosed in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Achneepineskum made his first court appearance on Friday via video.
