LETTER: Wasteful snow removal

To the editor:

On Jan. 24 at about  10:15 a.m. I was shocked as I watched in stunned bewilderment as yet another city roads department grader unnecessarily travelled both sides of my home street dragging its heavy destructive blade, creating nothing more than a costly spectacular fireworks display.

It was yet another foolish city roads department attempt to plow even more imaginary snow from an already clear, bare and dry pavement street.

Is this really the absolute best way that our city administration's idea of true responsible, prudent and diligent financial stewardship of our limited valuable taxpayer dollars and resources?

This is just the latest boneheaded display by the city and their continued ongoing  foolishness and stupidity of even more highly unnecessary wasteful use of valuable resources, resulting in ridiculously high costs in double-time wages, fuel, costly destructive damage to the roads and avoidable negligent and abusive wear and tear on expensive city heavy equipment.

When exactly will this city and its roads department ever wake up and learn not to plow clear, bare and dry pavement after more than a week of spring-like mild and above zero weather, coupled with a mild winter of very little snow?

Is there really any wonder or doubt as to why this city's struggling and overwhelmed taxpayers are so truly fed up, angry and disgusted when we all continually witness this exact sort of waste?

Winters have been occurring since the beginning of time, but to look at this city's administration and roads department you would think it was their very first.

Whatever happened to responsible management and common sense?

It's so sad that the people running this gong show do not spend our hard earned tax dollars as though they all worked hard for and earned it themselves, otherwise I'm sure it would be a much more different show to watch then.

The latest $100,000 recently spent for the new route optimization software sure is paying off well for itself, isn't it?
