LETTER: Open up audit logs

To the editor:

I would like the public to understand that there is still one open seat on city council.

When I say this I am referring to the deputant's chair, which is open for everyone to use.

When I challenged the city clerk's office about the procedures of the post testing of the tabulator, it was to ensure democracy, and was not an attempt to get a seat on council as some people may think.  After reading post tabulator testing procedures, I came across a feature that allows us to audit these machines.

My understanding is the audit log ensures that no one has tampered with the tabulators, and will not show how people have voted as suggested by the clerk’s office.

There are many issues with the past election that have not been resolved.

My issue is that the city clerk will not interpret the Election Act, which in turn forces the public to use the courts to get simple answers.

The only way I can see the audit log would be by applying to the courts.  I do not plan to spend my personal money nor should the public have to spend money to get the clerk to do the right thing.

I would encourage more people to use this seat to ensure accountability at city hall.
