LETTER: Why not have binding arbitration for correctional officers?

On Jan. 10 correctional officers and probation officers are either going to be on strike or locked out by the Wynne government.

On Jan. 10 correctional officers and probation officers are either going to be on strike or locked out by the Wynne government.

In all other Provinces correctional officers don't have the right to strike as they are deemed essential services just like police, firefighters and paramedics.

Essential workers have binding arbitration to resolve labour contracts. I question why the Wynne government just doesn't give us binding arbitration like the other provinces?

Instead the provincial government spends millions of tax payer dollars preparing for a strike that could end up costing a lot more when it's all over.

Binding Arbitration would resolve this and save the Ontario tax payers a lot of money!

Ernie Brayshaw is a correctional officer with 30 years of experience.
