OPINION: Delays in waterfront works seems linked to Event Centre proposal

The proposed hotel at the Waterfront appears to be in a state of limbo. This is the same hotel that was to have been built before the condos and the same hotel that was to open in the spring of 2014.

The proposed hotel at the Waterfront  appears to be in a state of limbo.

This is the same hotel that was to have been built before the condos and the same hotel that was to open in the spring  of 2014.

The construction of this hotel has been delayed several  times for a variety of reasons.

The city claims there is no connection between the construction of this hotel and a proposed $114 million dollar Event  Centre.

If this is so why is the Mayor and council attempting to build a new Event  Centre now  when the city has is  so strapped  for money  and the public sill has yet to have their say in the form of a plebiscite?

On  another  note we the Concerned  Taxpayers of Thunder Bay would like to thank  the Source for running our letter regarding the hydro rebate  not  once but twice  informing low income earners  of this rebate.

As  result  of this  publication the Lakehead  Social Council has advised us of how effective  this letter  has been  in the number  of applicants  that have  applied  locally.

The  Lakehead  Social  Planning Council  also does  over  5,000 income tax returns  free of charge annually for low income earners.  The threshold  is $30,000 dollars for a single person  and $40,000 for couples.
