(OTTAWA) Thursday, June 30, 2016 – In advance of Canada Day, Robert Nault, Member of Parliament (Kenora Riding), released the following statement:

“Tomorrow, we celebrate the 149th anniversary of the enactment of the Constitution Act, 1867, and three colonies uniting to form the country of Canada. From coast-to-coast-coast, Canadians will celebrate the pristine beauty and multiculturalism of this wonderful country we call home.

“It’s a day to express thanks and gratitude for our freedom of expression, unlimited opportunity, and the pride associated with being Canadian. It’s a time to reflect on our accomplishments as a country over the last year, and to commemorate the talent that makes us unique. From The Tragically Hip to Margaret Atwood, from Elvis Stojko to Muriel McQueen Fergusson, we all play a part in shaping Canada.

“This year is especially exciting as many new Canadians are experiencing Canada Day for the first time. I hope that recent immigrants, particularly the Syrian and Eritrean families new to the Kenora riding, truly enjoy their first official celebration.

“Whether you are celebrating in Ottawa, Kenora, or abroad, I wish you a ‘Happy Canada Day’ and look forward to celebrating ‘Canada 150’ next year!”
