Express Alumni game aims at feeding the hungry

The holiday season is a time for giving, and past and present members of the Lakehead Express Soccer Club have taken that to heart.
The holiday season is a time for giving, and past and present members of the Lakehead Express Soccer Club have taken that to heart.

The Club is hosting its second annual Alumni Game Thursday evening in support of the Thunder Bay Regional Food Distribution Association.  Thursday afternoon, the club donated nearly 800 pounds of food to the charity.

RFDA Executive Director Volker Kromm said the Christmas season is the busiest time of year, and the donation will reach the tables of up to 200 families.

He added that while all donations are wonderful, it's especially inspiring when food comes in from a group of young people.

The Lakehead Express also received a $15,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

The alumni game starts at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Sports Dome.
