Andy Shields was the top Canadian finisher in the 10-kilometre skate on Wednesday at the world junior Nordica championships in Otepaa, Estonia.

Shields, a member of the National Development Team-Thunder Bay, crossed the finish line in 26:20, good for 49th place in a field of 103 skiers. Sindre Skar of Norway won the race in 24:05.2.

Next up for Shields, a native of Kitchener, Ont., is the 1.4-kilometre classic sprint race.
