The Lakehead Thunderweolves have signed another burly defenceman, but they’ll have to wait a year for him to suit up.
James DeLory, a former fourth-round pick of the San Jose Sharks, won’t be eligible to play with the Wolves until the 2012-13 season, after spending two years in the professional ranks with the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones and the CHL’s Shreveport Mudbugs.
The 6-foot-5 blueliner had no points with the Cyclones in 2010-11, and scored seven times and added seven assists in a 36-game stint with the Mudbugs.
He spent four seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s Oshawa Generals from 2004 to 2008, where he recorded three seasons of more than 100 penalty minutes and was a teammate of rising NHL star John Tavares.
The 23-year-old is a native of Scarborough.
LU has already had four defenceman commit to the team for the upcoming season, losing three to graduation.
