Former NHLer Lonny Bohonos is taking over the interim reins of the Thunder Bay North Stars.

Best known for his nine-point outburst for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1999 playoffs, the 38-year-old Bohonos is a familiar face to at least 14 players on the North Stars lineup, having coached them with the Thunder Bay Kings organization.

"The ownership group of the Thunder Bay North Stars welcome Lonny to the team and wish he and the players well in the remainder of the regular season, throughout the playofs and along the road to the Dudley Hewitt Cup," said team president David Dubinsky in a release issued Monday night.

Bohonos is a native of Winnipeg who moved to Thunder Bay in 2006 after his playing days ended.

The Stars and longtime coach Todd Howarth parted ways on Sunday. Reached by Thunder Bay Television on Monday, Howarth declined to be interviewed.

I guess Bohonos doesn't know that his coaching is only for the rest of the season, I don't think he will match up to Howarth's record. The city don't deserve good Junior teams here because they don't support them hardly at all. When they are in the NHL they get all the support they really don't need. Something is wrong with that situation.

Watched TBT News tonight for the sports and a story on this move. NOT EVEN MENTIONED! Do these people working there have a pulse on local sports stories or what? No interviews from anyone with the North Stars. Brutal...
