The Jadran Beljo experiment for the Lakehead Thunderwolves is over.

Beljo, a highly touted Christmas recruit last season, informed LU coach Joel Scherban recently that he'd been struggling with the decision to focus on school and work or his hockey career, and decided the former was best for his future.

Scherban said the decision to part ways was a mutual one.

Beljo, 24, a native of Sudbury, had six goals and eight assists in 16 OUA contests, picking up 65 penalty minutes.
He had no points in two playoff games last year. He was a two-time 30-goal scorer in the Ontario Hockey League and spent 16 games with the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies in 2009-10 before joining the Pack.

The Wolves, who lost 5-4 to Guelph on Wednesday, face elimination Friday night on home ice in the best-of-three opening-round series.

What pro career? The guy is 24 years old and he's not even a dominate player at the University level.

I guess making $300.00 per week in the Southern Professional Hockey League is more appealing.

In 20 years when he got nothing going for him, he'll look back on this decision and realize his should have gotten his education.

He quit the team so he could focus on school.

Former means 1st. If the article said "later" then that would mean he's gone to play pro again.

You're both right. I initially said latter, then realized my mistake when Realist made a comment, and I corrected it.

Just a gut feeling, but I think there is more to this story. Dig deeper Leith!! When a coach is feeling the heat sometimes they try to take the focus off and deflect it.
Just my two cents...
