Randy Fossum was the low qualifier Friday as the prestigious Strathcona Invitational kicked off.

Fossum fired a five-under 67 to lead the eight championship qualifiers in the tournament’s senior division, besting Rollie Turrie by six strokes.

Also earning their way into championship flight were Steve Devlin (76), Brian Mallon (76), Dave Lushney (77), Kim Hutch (79), John De Grazia (79) and Rick Danielewski (80), who needed a playoff to grab the final spot.

In the super senior division, Tony Stokaluk shot even-par 72 to earn low qualifier status. Joining him in championship flight are Guy Wolframe (74), Ron Kehl (75), Donald Peloquin (76), Chic Hutcheon (78), Ron Hamilton (79), Glen Fossum (80) and Doug Kukko (80).
Open division qualifying starts Saturday, with the finals in all three categories slated for the civic holiday on Monday.
