The Thunder Bay Queens fell short of the podium at their provincial championships.

The midget AA Sportop Queens fell 2-1 in overtime to the Whitby Wolves in the bronze medal match at the Ontario Women's Hockey Association provincial championships in Buckingham on Sunday afternoon.

Whitby's Mykaela Volpe ended the game six minutes into extra time, converting on the power play.

Samantha Strassburger recorded the lone Thunder Bay goal.

Thunder Bay was playing their third game in less than 20 hours after prevailing in a marathon four-overtime quarterfinal contest Saturday evening and then falling in their morning semifinal affair against the Stoney Creek Sabres.

The Sudbury Ice Wolves downed Stoney Creek in the gold medal match and will advance to the ESSO Cup national championships later this month.
