WILLMAR, Minn. – A dominant pitching performance was just what the doctor ordered for the Thunder Bay Border Cats to snap a five-game losing skid.
Thunder Bay starter Yuji Suzuki tossed a complete game while only allowing two runs en route to the Border Cats picking up an 8-2 victory over the North Division leading Willmar Stingers in Northwoods League play at Bill Taunton Stadium on Friday.
Suzuki (W, 2-4) held the Singers bats’ scoreless through the first eight innings before giving up the only two blemishes on his record after the outcome of the contest was a foregone conclusion.
The Border Cats had a balanced offensive attack, as six players were credited with driving in a run. Sal Taormina went 3-for-4 while batting in a run and scoring twice.
Thunder Bay (4-15) returns home Saturday to host the Waterloo Bucks (12-9) for the first in a two-game series. It also kicks off a stretch of seven straight days of home games for the Border Cats.
