Lakehead prevails over MacEwan U.

Edmonton, Alta. -- In a game that came down to the wire, the men's basketball team survived a late push by the MacEwan Griifins to pull out a 71-70 victory on Friday night.

Lakehead enjoyed an 11-point lead at halftime, but had the Griffins storm back to make for a close finish. The Griffins missed a full court heave at the buzzer, after fifth year veteran Dwayne Harvey was able to make his free throws in clutch time.

Harvey led the Pack with 18 points, 7 assists and 7 boards and 1 turnover in 28 minutes of play.

In his Thunderwolves' debut, Mor Menashe logged 32 minutes of court time, scoring 15 points on 7-16 shooting with 9 rebounds and 5 assists.

Griffin Lee Danderfer equalled Harvey's game-high 18 points, going 5-16 from the field.

"I thought we play well the first half but the second half was a completely different story," said Coach Furtado, whose team led 41-29 at halftime. "We didn't execute the game plan and MacEwan hits some shots down the stretch that made for an interesting finish."

Lakehead made 16 assists as a team compared to MacEwan's 6...The Griffins went 24-29 from the free throw line to Lakehead's 8-16...Lakehead out-rebounded MacEwan 40-26 (with 14 offensive rebounds for LU)... The Griffins had 4 players with over 31 minutes playing time...Three Thunderwolves fouled-out of the game...MacEwan scored 23 points off turnovers.
