Hockey Northwestern Ontario’s Dean Filane-Figliomeni got a rare invitation to sit on Hockey Canada’s board of directors.

The former Schreiber resident, who now calls Thunder Bay home, became the first Hockey Northwestern Ontario representative to get the call from Hockey Canada in 38 years.

T.B. McCormack was the last HNO member to serve on the national governing body’s board, elected in 1976.

He’s only the sixth person from Northwestern Ontario elected to Hockey Canada’s board in the organization’s 100-year history.
Filane-Figliomeni earned a one-year term.
