MBB: Strong effort not enough, Carleton sends Lakehead packing

There was no miracle in the nation’s capital on Saturday night. The Carleton Ravens did what most suspected they might, rolling to a 79-54 OUA men’s basketball quarterfinal win over the Lakehead Thunderwolves.

There was no miracle in the nation’s capital on Saturday night.

The Carleton Ravens did what most suspected they might, rolling to a 79-54 OUA men’s basketball quarterfinal win over the Lakehead Thunderwolves.

But the visitors made the No. 1 team in the nation work for their win.

Frustrating the Ravens and drawing them into foul trouble, the Wolves struggled to take advantage when opportunity knocked, hitting just 16 of 58 shots fired up, including only five of 22 from beyond the arc.

The loss marked the end of the road for a pair of Thunderwolves veterans, forward Anthony McIntosh and guard Dwayne Harvey.

Both finished with strong outings. McIntosh scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Harvey collected 15 points, two shy of the team-best 17 posted by second-year guard Henry Tan.|

The 25-point deficit was 22 better than the Wolves managed late last year when the two teams met in the regular season.

Once again the Scrubb brothers lead the Ravens attack.

Thomas Scrubb landed the double-double, scoring 20 and hauling in 13 boards, while brother Phillip notched a game-high 28 despite early foul trouble.

The Ravens will take on Ryerson at the OUA Final Four next weekend in Ottawa, where host Gee Gees will take on Windsor in the other semifinal.
