Fort Frances doubles Dryden, moves to within a win of a second SIJHL title

FORT FRANCES -- The Fort Frances Lakers are a win away from a second straight Superior International Junior Hockey League championship.

Backed by a pair of goals from Colton Spicer, the host Lakers doubled up the Dryden Ice Dogs 6-3 on Friday night to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven final.

Nick Minerva, Mason Meyer, Dylan Robertson and Robbie Bonthron also scored for the Lakers, who once trailed the series 2-1.

Kyle Pouncy, who scored the game’s first goal at 4:47 of the first, Eric Masters and Jonathan Philley had the Dryden tallies.

Fort Frances out-shot the Ice Dogs 37-33, Nathan Park making 30 saves to pick up the win.

Game 6 will be played Saturday night in Dryden. Game 7, if necessary, goes Tuesday at Ice For Kids Arena in Fort Frances.
