Fort Frances captures second straight SIJHL championship

DRYDEN -- Wyatt Cota and the Fort Frances Lakers are Superior International Junior Hockey League champions again.

Cota scored all three goals for the Lakers on Saturday night, leading them to a second consecutive Bill Salonen Cup win, downing the host Dryden Ice Dogs 3-1.

Blake Peavey had the lone goal for Dryden, coming with seven minutes to go in the third.

Cota scored twice in the first and added an empty-netter with three seconds left in regulation to seal the win.

Nathan Park made 28 saves to earn the victory in nets for the Lakers.

Both teams advance to the Dudley Hewitt Cup.

Fort Frances will host the Ontario Junior A championship, with the Ice Dogs getting the SIJHL berth.
