Thunder Bay's Matt Murray captures AHL's Harry (Hap) Holmes Award

The awards keep rolling in for Thunder Bay’s Matt Murray.

On Sunday the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins goalie tandem of Murray and Jeff Zatkoff officially captured the Harry (Hap) Holmes Memorial Award for allowing the fewest goals in the American Hockey League this season.

The Baby Penguins let in an AHL-low 163 goals in 2014-15.

For Murray, who finished with a 25-10-3 record, with 12 shutouts, it was his third major trophy in his first season as professional.

Earlier this month he was given the Aldege (Baz) Bastien Memorial Award as the league’s outstanding goaltender and the Dudley (Red) Garrett Memorial Award as the AHL’s outstanding rookie.

Zatkoff, who helped the Penguins win the Holmes Award in 2013, was 18-14-4, with a 2.45 goals against average.

Past winners of the Holmes Award include hall-of-famer Gerry Chevers, Pete Peeters, Pelle Lindbergh, Olaf Kolzig and Jean-Sebastien Giguere.
