Add another hockey hall-of-fame legend to the Staal Foundation Open lineup in 2015.

Former Edmonton Oilers superstar Grant Fuhr will not only lend his name to the PGA Tour Canada event in July, he’ll actually tee it up after accepting a sponsor’s exemption into the second-year event.

Fuhr said he’s thrilled to take part.

“I have a great deal of respect for the players I’ll be competing against and know the level of play on PGA Tour Canada is incredibly strong,” Fuhr said in a release issued on Tuesday.

“I’ve been working hard on my game and look forward to seeing how I stack up against the competition this summer.

Fuhr will also play in the celebrity pro-am on the Monday of the week-long event.

The tournament has already secured an appearance by another hall-of-famer, Bobby Orr, who will spend two days at the event, scheduled for the week of July 14.

Drafted in the first round in 1981 by the Oilers, he led the team to five Stanley Cup wins between 1984 and 1990 before moving on for stints with Toronto, Buffalo, Los Angeles, St. Louis and Calgary, retiring in 2000.

He entered the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003.

Now 52, Fuhr is the director of golf at Desert Dunes Golf Club in Palm Springs, Calif. and has previously competed in Web.com Tour events and won the 2005 Mercedes Trophy Golf World Final. He’s also spent time on the celebrity golf circuit.

“To host both Bobby Orr and Grant Fuhr is exceptional,” said tournament director Scott Smith. “These two gentlemen are icons in the sport of hockey and are here to support the Staals in their efforts.

“Grant, of course, will also be competing in the actual event, so this adds another element of interest. We couldn’t be more pleased.”
