Lakehead volleyball has added a second off-season recruit.

The Thunderwolves on Tuesday announced Ottawa’s Rachel Sweezey has committed to the team. A graduate of the Mavericks Volleyball club, Sweezey trained under Judi Mousseau, a coach known for producing elite players.

“Coach Mousseau is doing great work with Rachel and I trust recommendations from coaches like Judi,” Lakehead coach Chris Green said in a release issued by Lakehead Athletics.

“Rachel’s a complete, well-rounded athlete with an upside in our gym. She’s got strength and athleticism, and athletes like her make a difference here because we work in stride with them to achieve their goals and those of our program. Combine that with her work ethic and this is a win-win for us.”

Described as an athletic middle attacker, Sweezey has shown plenty of versatility and can play multiple positions for the Thunderwolves if asked.

She said the school’s smaller size was just one reason why the future environmental management student chose Lakehead.

“Meeting and practicing with the team and coaching staff was a pleasure as well. Everyone was so welcoming and I am definitely looking forward to being a part of this tight-knit family. I know it will be a very good fit and I'm very excited to be joining the Thunderwolves next year,” she said.
