The Thunder Bay Border Cats have added an outfielder with major league pedigree.
Jared James, son of former big leaguer Dion James, who played 11 seasons with Milwaukee, Atlanta, Cleveland and the New York Yankees, will join the Cats this summer.
A 30th-round pick of the Braves last year out of Sacramento Community College, James hit .351 last season with three home runs, 10 doubles and five triples.
Thunder Bay manager Danny Benedetti has also added eight pitchers to the Border Cats staff. Signing with the Cats are Kenny Glover Junior (Savannah State University), Malik Jones (Savannah State University), Greg Weissert (Fordham University), Jeremy Charles (University of Hartford), Sean McKay (University of Hartford), Nate Steger (Winston Salem State University), Donnie Stellers (Wake Forest University), and Julian Loret de Mola (Florida-Nova Southeastern University).
The Cats open their season on Tuesday at home against Eau Claire.
