Thunder Bay residents can celebrate on Sunday morning the arrival of the Pan American Games torch to the city alongside four-time Olympic cyclist Curt Harnett  and Paralympic swimmer Andrea Cole.

The celebration begins at 8 a.m. at city hall with a pancake breakfast.

Harnett, who won three Olympic medals, and Cole, who captured four Parlalympic medals, have been named honourary torchbearers.

Harnett will bring the torch to City Hall for the celebration, while Cole will enter the Terry Fox monument holding it high.

The torch will leave the Airlane Hotel at 8:19 a.m. and proceed east on Arthur Street, turning north on May Street to city hall.

It will remain there until 9:30 a.m., with brief stops at the Clayton building on the CLE grounds and at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, the convoy then leaving for the Terry Fox monument.

The torch is scheduled to arrive in Toronto on Saturday, with 3,000 torchbearers expected to carry the flame on its journey back to the Ontario capital.

The Games officially open on July 10.
