Cats upset Huskies in afternoon tilt

Weissert struck out 11 and did not allow a run in seven innings, leading the Cats to a 3-1 win over the host Duluth Huskies in the first game a Northwoods League doubleheader at Wade Stadium.

Mikael Mogues, Jared James and Alan Baldwin drove in runs for Thunde Bay, who took an early 3-0 lead, reliever Nate Steger giving up the lone Duluth run in the eighth.

The game was delayed 90 minutes by rain.

Huskies starter Landon Smith was tagged with the loss.

The Border Cats are 16-17, with three games left in the opening half, and have won three straight.

The Huskies (19-12) remained 2.5 games back of North Division-leading Willmar (21-12), who fell 9-1 to Alexandria.
