For the first time in franchise history, the Springfield Synergy have downed the Thunder Bay Chill.

Alejandro Mentasti and Richard Olson scored second-half goals for the Synergy, breaking open a 1-1 tie to send the home side to a 3-1 victory.

The Chill, who tied the contest in the 53rd on a Sullivan Silva tally, dropped a second straight Premier Development League contest to fall to 5-2-3, facing a crucial road match on Wednesday against the Chicago Fire U-23, who trail Thunder Bay by a single point in the hunt for the second and final playoff spot in the Heartland Division.

The Synergy (4-5-3) improved their slim playoff hopes, climbing to within three points of Thunder Bay and two of Chicago.
Des Moines (6-2-1) leads the division with 19 points, one more than Thunder Bay.
